Optical Illusions.

Today's task was to create an Optical Illusion. I chose to make this one because I am into cars. and I find it so fascinating!

You might be looking at this and wondering "how is this an Optical Illusion?" well, each car is the EXACT same size! crazy right the closets one look tiny! you can even measure it. They are all the exact same size.

Please comment your thoughts on this image below, Did the Illusion I made trick you?

Here is the google drawing where I made the Optical Illusion.

I though it looked like there were plungers on the table so I coloured them red.

THE BEACH (my story)

This weeks writing had to be about the beach I decided to add a "INTERESTING" twist. enjoy! (and comment below what you think)

The clouds had given up on hiding the sun from the empty beach. So mum and dad let me walk down to the beach. As I make my way down the stone path holding my towel there's a small, warm wind whipping my chest.

I skip along the sand and eventually get to the water. I step into the shallows and Sand creeps through my toes tickling me, I giggle, a little 6 year old laugh. The ones that make all my big sisters friends go “awwww”. Water jumps up snatching the sand from my toes and The sudden cold of the water makes me yelp.

I feel safe in my soaked togs, the warm breeze flicking my hair into my eyes. I look around to check who's watching and find the cove deserted, I quickly pee in the water and then take a deep breath and dive into the ocean.

As I penetrate the water the The air is sucked straight out of my mouth. bubbles surround me and I choke and struggle “help!”

I scream, “help!”, but all my desperate cries do are produce bubbles.

As I try to get to the surface I remember what my 5 year old swimming teacher taught me a year ago.

I begin kicking, kicking, kicking I put my hands up into the rocket position as I break the surface. I gasp for breath and open my eyes I feel sticky and look around to find I had wet the bed yet again.

“Mum!”  I yell.  She doesn't answer. I look over at my clock it reads, 3:18 am. I groan and slip out of my stinky wet sheets and scutter down the hallway “Mum!”

I enter her bedroom and begin vigorously shaking her “what?”

she groans from deep in her throat.

“I wet the bed.”

I say in shame.

“NOT AGAIN!”

Villager "fortress"

This is inspired by the Minecraft villager houses. I made a walled area to protect the villager from the "Zombies"

Its all most finished and I am wondering what to build next.

please comment your ideas below.

NEW NZ flag design

I feel like the new Zealand flag voting turned out really dumb so I decided to make my own. I kept the southern cross and the union jack but I thought It should acknowledge Maori culture.

What good writers do!

At the end of last term, ATN had to put together a teaching slide about all the things they had learnt in writing.  It had to give an example and use a range of media to present their learnings.  They have blown me away with what they learnt.  I wish I could post all 24  but I will add just my top 5.  P.S.  it has been really hard to narrow it down.  I hope you learn something from these very cool slides.  Leave us a comment about your favourite tool or new learning.  Enjoy.

My superhero story

If I was a superhero, What is my story?

My Learning Intentions:

  1. To write a beginning / middle and end

  2. add detail

Diary entry 52:

I have been in solitary confinement for two week I broke out of the last three and have been here since waitting my horrible fate. I have been arrested for creating and unleashing the deadly virus known as covid 19 and my punishment is banishment from the earth for life.

Why might you ask?

I did it to cleanse the earth. Too many bad people, too many bad things, which I find Ironic because I killed hundreds of thousands of people. but they all deserved it.

*4 weeks later

Prepare for lift of in t-minus ten seconds ten nine eight seven six five four three two one

My tiny capsule begins to shudder and suddenly blasts off the ground. I begin to freak out. I'm gonna die up in space lonely and dead.

I only have two years of food, what happens after those two years?

22 months later.

Charlie sits squarely in the capsule squished and grumpy. Moaning and groaning he tries to move and fall asleep but has no luck. Surprisingly he is fairly healthy and muscular thanks to the pills that he smuggled in. Finally the poor man drifts to sleep and as he does his life is changed forever. A green planet looms ahead thriving with tiny life.

The capsule begins to burn up as it falls through

the atmosphere.

Skruff stinky Charlie jolts awake in the process. He screams and shouts overjoyed and fearing for his life at the same time, if you make it, you're a new man but if you don’t you’re a dead and your life is over.

The capsule suddenly explodes blowing a hole in the lush pea coloured ground high pitched ring sounds in Charlie’s brain he kicks the door open and covers his mouth being aware of the air conditions although if the air was unhealthy I doubt a hand over his mouth would save him.

Dust covers the ground and tree and Charlie begins to cough and splutter. He takes his hand from his mouth and takes a breath. relief and oxygen fill him he signs and jumps up and down. “YES!”

He yells tumultuously “YES!”

“Could you please shut up!”

a little voice says, Charlie jumps startled “excuse me?”

“I said shut up!”

Looking down Charlie sees a little man, looking very cross. The small human looks up and Charlie watches the tiny man's eyes bulge “cool”

He whispers “you’re tiny”

Charlie says in awe “You're massive!”

Stutters the mini human.

“You might want to come with me,”

the tiny man says “we are being invaded by evil elves and we could really use your help.”

creative writing task

My Learning Intentions are to

  1. Improve my punctuation and spelling

  2. Add detail

  3. 3rd person

and I wanted to write in Present tense

“This is going to be tricky,”

A pale greying middle aged woman in glasses sighs. “There are two openings. The first is directly after the meeting in the museum, that’s where we bring in the fake bodyguard.”

The lady points to a dark man in a vest and looks over her glasses “Hector, that’s you.”

Hector nods, not saying a word.

Hector aka silent violent is a taxi driver by day and boxes for fun, perfect for the job. He is extremely strong and can fix any little “problems” that may occur during the mission.

“The second opening where we can strike is just before his dinner back at his mansion. Jackson, can you please take over?”

The pale lady steps away from the white board and a young pimple covered teen with glasses and curly blonde hair stands up and carries on from his colleague.

“Yeah so I’ve been studying our guy for months now he follows an almost completely different route every day. The only other time apart from his scheduled meeting is when he heads home for tea. Now here's what we're gonna do…”.

Present day

Beep beep beep 5.15am

“Ahh”

a groggy clean cut Michael Rean groans. He had been dozing most of the night. in and out of sleep and nightmares. Mr Rean climbs out of bed slipping on a dressing gown and slippers. Jackson squats By the window and peers through binoculars into Michael's room “yeah, he's just hopped the shower”

The teen whispers into a walkie talkie. Hector stands by in a beautiful $305,000 V12 black and silver maybach s-class, Identical to the rest of the convoy’s fleet that waits outside.

“Ah yeah he’s just finished his breakfast. Hector stand by”

Hector grunts and Michael is out the door heading for the only car that's not black and silver.

“Clunk” Mr rean slams the land rover's door, the suv revs, the driver signals to the rest of the convoy that it's time to leave and they do. About half an hour later and Hector and the crew still have no idea where they are going. All they know is Hector is a american drug lord and they have been hired to kill him. They could be being led straight into a trap the only thing stopping them from pulling out was the million dollars each. Hector continued following the fleet, Finally they reached some sort of run down petrol station “Hector where are you?” Jackson asked in an urgent tone “Hector!”

Two men hop out of the silver s-class and hector hears their feet land on the cracked petrol station concrete. They are armed with heavy illegal guns and coming Hector's way. Hector swears and takes into his walkie talkie “s***! They found me Jackson! Micheal’s men found me! I need back up! Ja-”

Suddenly the car door is wrenched open and the men raise their guns. There is not a moment of hesitation on the men's menacing faces before they pull the trigger on their black AK47s. The automatic rifle penetrates Hector's skin over and over blood begins squirting and gushing out of the poor man's chest Hector's eyes roll back in his head and he falls slumping onto the bloody, gritty concrete only then do the men stop.

Science fiction scene description

This weeks story challenge was to add detail about a science fiction scene

It’s the year 3000, my name is Charlie and I am 93. Earth (my old home) is a disgusting dump yard. It is completely off limits to humans, the toxic waste would kill beings almost instantly.

100,000km above the earth is a whole new “world” made of metal. Tube jets of air and steam keep the platforms in the air and chrome metal balustrades are the city's barriers.

While I walk along the clunky metal platform, I feel the 100,000 mph wind penetrate a small gap in my suit. It’s extremely painful. I quickly dash inside a gadget shop and open the airlock. I unclip my full face wind tight helmet and wait for the airlock to open. I look around and see a rusty brown security camera staring me down. I give it a wave and finally the airlock opens. I step out and am blasted with warmth. I put my helmet on the ground. Looking up as I do so, zap, minis float on a magnet gun shelf,

digital signs flash the latest products in my face.

“Good morning Mr Dale-Low” chirps a robot I ignore it and bend down to tend to my sore skin.

“Mr Dale-Low what sort of gadget are you looking for today?”

“Nothing thanks” I say irritably continuing to wipe my leg.

“You better leave then Sir” the robot says, increasing the harsh tone.

“Sure.” I say, as I had finished fixing my leg. Suddenly, ten men in black scrambled out of the side room and shove me into the airlock and close the door.

“Oh no” I think, “I left my helmet inside, the wind is going to kill me” Hiss… I hear the airlock open and am ripped to pieces almost instantly.

healthy streams info report

an information report is were you describe a problem or a subject and show the important information about it. (and the who, what, where, when)

Healthy streams information report
80% of NZ rivers are poor quality. This is appalling. Farmers are getting lazy, polluting rivers with their cows and strip grazing. This process creates topsoil which eventually builds up in our rivers turning them to mucky brown trickles. What about the poor animals that live in that water? Fish, eels and critters. Otaki rivers are not so rural this should mean our streams and rivers don’t have problems with topsoil, therefore they should be a lot cleaner. ATN is about to find out...

Science-fiction character description

  LI:
To add detail about a character.
Using elements of science fiction to create a character

Two men stand around a small syringe next to them is a tiny baby about the size of a tennis ball. The baby is lying on a piece of A4 paper that reads black male, 3 months early. Little did this baby know that the serum in the syringe would change his life forever.
That syringe contained alien DNA from mars.
14 years later
The squeak of shoes echoes around the gym. I watch as Ja effortlessly shoots one half court after another his short bangs wobble and beads of sweat purse his shiny temple and trickle down his bare chest “he’s not human” a kid jokes this make me chuckle as what the kid said Is actually true  I created Ja in a lab. Though the experiment went wrong  (he’s missing a leg) I think He came out great healthy, strong and so far nothing’s really gone wrong. “All right boys” Ja bellows in his deep voice “I’ll catch you guys later”. A kid mumbles goodbye and 6 foot ja promptly leaves the stuffy gym putting on his t-shirt on the way out.
I’ve been following Ja for quite A while now and every day he  walks along the waterfront  slightly limping with his fake leg. He follows a busking road up into the hills to his “foster” parents house when I say foster I say it sarcastically because no one actually lives there. He lives in a rundown rusty shed filled with computers and random gadgets he has created. Everytime I watch him he gets closer and closer to finding out everything.
But It’s my job to to only watch over him but stop him from finding out what really happened.

The blind fold wraps around my skull, turning my whole world pitch black. I bet I look ridiculous! I think to
myself. crackling tickles my ears, “Pop”. Suddenly butter and salt wafts up my nose, my mouth is watering.
It's just before lunch so I’ve worked up a nice appetite. my stomach begins growling at me, it's angry.
I can't wait any longer. My greedy hand dives longingly for the buttery, salty smell. I drag my hand blindly
across the table searching for the food, “gotcha’ once inside I grope for the buttery balls of goodness.
I lick my lips and pop the savoury into my mouth. A bit of salt… nothing. I try again, “BOOM” an explosion
of mouth watering goodness goes off on my palate and taste buds. Once it’s in my mouth my saliva works
fast dissolving the buttery goodness.
I Swallow and repeat.

Writing task re-telling an event

LI: To retell and describe an event or an experience. Sentence starters. Punctuation. I’m ready to pounce, like a tiger watching its prey , my hand overs over my empty cup sitting on the hot concrete. Neves tingling I look around at the hot sunny day, birds chirp, kids shout and clouds are dotted around the bright blue skies suddenly I’m brought out of my trance “go!” My feet scutter as I race toward the plastic bucket, my plastic cup sits between my fasinned lips I reach the bucket with too much speed I skid along the rough concrete, quickly dipping my cuo into the water before sticking it back between my lips. I feel a strange slightly tart taste on my mouth I run back to where I started and tip myb water into my own. I repeat the process about 6 times, Ethan and I are head to head when time is called, I sigh and tip my head back in extraction beads of sweat threatening to pursue my skin. Now that's what I call writing.

dead day story task.

  LI:
To describe a setting in a story.
The -ING sentence.
Double the last consonant.

My story:

Chocolate gold leaves pave the deep, lush, green, grass. It’s wet under foot but not muddy. Shouting and clashing echoes from the gym. Busy kids surround me jotting down ideas. The wet blanket sky droops threatening to release a downpour. The weather is strange. It’s impossible to tell the time of day, gloomy and sad. It’s definitely effects my mindset (and not in a good way).
It’s thick with clouds, not a bird in sight. The day is so lifeless and so alive and the same time.

writing task ( a white, large, friendly, robot?)

A white, large, friendly, robot stands in a busking street. Not something
you normally see as you commute to work. Heads turn peering at its simple
led eyes and smile, it looks so harmless with its slightly tack shell and smell of roses.

I wouldn't be so sure.
This robot has the brain of 103 year old evil scientist Robert scoot. Before he transferred
his evil genius brain into his masterpiece robot. He was arrested for taking fire at some
kids with his laser gun prototype. He was charged with murder and prohibited firearms
and sentenced to life in prison. Somehow he managed to escape and his new goal is
world domination being 90 at the time he knew he was going to have to find a way to
have eternal life that's where the robot comes in.

Robert has spent the last 13 years creating this robot and it has finally come to life
“it beautiful!" whisper Robert . he stood and looked at it marvelling at its massive cuddly body it was
huge. about 8 foot it had a large belly where the computer went and a warm smile the made you want to give it a cuddle

Apple phone review.

The Apple iPhone 6. A simple, affordable, reliable phone, Right?

That's what I thought until a couple of weeks ago.

My mum has had two iPhones and both of them have blacked out so much there are no longer fit to use her everyday phone.

She first bought a 5c (a fairly new model at the time) only for it to just go black.

I googled this problem and it happened to tonnes of people on the internet

Questions like:

What do you do if Your iPhone blacks out a lot?

My iPhone 6  has the black screen of death hat I do?

Apple has been getting in trouble for purposely slowing down there older models. While they claimed to be “preserving” the battery heath. In 2018 apple was charged over 8 million New Zealand dollars followed by another more recent charge of over 47 million dollars. You'd think that would stop Apple,  I believe otherwise.

Maybe I’m wrong,

And If I’m wrong that's very bad of apple for even going down that track because now they've built up a bad reputation.

People will forever think when their iPhones fail, apple has done it on purpose.

Is school overrated?

Is school overrated?

For centuries children have been going to school.

But what if I told you there was a better “school” actually no school at all.

You have probably heard of the concept of homeschooling before

Schooling at home right?

For two years I was homeschooled after all that I came out with a much better mindset towards not just learning but life. I also found that I could problem solve and self manage.

These are both things schools all over New Zealand encourage but then why do they come along and micromanage us?

Home schooling isn’t just schooling at home Its a whole new concept of learning. Student lead learning I did some research and found that homeschooled children tend to score better on state and federal standardised tests. According to research from Brian Ray of the National Home Education Research Institute, home-educated kids “typically score 15 to 30 percent more than public-school students on standardised academic achievement tests.” This is true regardless of the parent’s income or if they have experience teaching.

You're probably thinking yeah, but what about the kids' social skills if they're not at school?

Don't we all need to learn how to deal with bullies NO!

Let me explain.

All our biggest hopes and dreams happen when we're little kids.

When you go to school as a little kid) you have these awesome big ideas only for them to be crushed by bigger kids and bullies.

Meanwhile, the little kid at home has the same big idea with no bully or no teacher to tell then what to do, therefore he or she can pursue their Idea and create a wonderful masterpiece or an awesome robot excreta, all by themselves

Or thought there is one downside to homeschooling and that's the fact that you have no friends though there are events and things to bring homeschool kids closer together but Its definitely not as good as school socially for friends.

So I’ve been thinking why can't we make school more like homeschool by doing more student lead learning and letting students choose what they want to do not just one of projects but most of their learning I feel like there should be a better way to “learn” the sit in a classroom for 6 hours a day doing work the teacher has set us. We just try to memorise facts and then spit them out on tests.

Is the learning strategy nz schools are using really the best?

My email to Jacinda

Dear Jacinda Ardern,

My name is Charlie, I live in Manakau and I go to Otaki college. I'm twelve years old and I love basketball, cars and art. Do you like art? I think it's a great way to express your feelings in a different way.

I like the decision you have made to help kiwis all over New Zealand. I can't imagine the stress you are going through to deal with the virus. You have been tough and sern toward covid-19 and I think putting into lockdown when you did was a great idea, not only did it save lives but it brought families closer together.

I want to thank you for all the hard work and effort you have put in to help New Zealand. I know the battle is not over but we're on the home straight.

You are a great leader, you've stayed positive throughout all of this and I think what your doing is awesome.

Once again, I just want to say thank you for doing your job so well.

From Charlie.  🙂
